Brendan Gaughan Qualifying Report - Atlanta

Brendan Gaughan will start the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 from the 25th position on Sunday, Oct. 31. With Jasper Engines and Transmissions taking the lead this weekend, Gaughan is intent on putting on a good show.

Gaughan led the qualifying field of 58 drivers off. He turned a 29.597 second lap or 187.316 mph that bested his fastest practice lap by four-tenths of a second.

Following Gaughan’s qualifying run he said the car was loose, despite the efforts of the JET Racing team during the morning practice session. He also poked fun at being the first driver to lay down a lap.

“We fought loose conditions in practice earlier today, so it was more of the same,” Gaughan said. “Shane and the guys tried some things to tighten the car up, but it just didn’t seem to work. We have “Happy Hour” tomorrow, so we will get another crack at it. The good thing about going out first is I am guaranteed a pole position for at least one minute!”

Once again, Penske-Jasper power secured the pole position with Ryan Newman at the wheel. Gaughan’s other Penske-Jasper powered teammates Rusty Wallace and Travis Kvapil will start from the 12th and 26th positions respectively.
