Gaughan Paces First Practice Session In Las Vegas

Rusty Wallace Racing’s Brendan Gaughan—a Las Vegas native—set the fastest time earlier this afternoon in the first of two practice sessions for Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Gaughan’s best lap of 30.423 seconds (177.497 MPH) is the fastest lap of the day thus far and occurred on the 26th of his 26 laps in the session. Noted Gaughan, “We have a really, really good South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Impala SS here this weekend. It was stuck almost perfectly down in turns one and two. We were maybe a tenth or so off in race trim, so we’re going to focus on that pretty hard in final practice.”

Meanwhile, Gaughan’s RWR teammate, Steve Wallace, was also among the top-ten in the first practice, posting the ninth fastest effort overall. Wallace’s best lap of 30.768 seconds (175.507 MPH) came on the ninth of his 27 laps in the session. Said Wallace, “I’m really happy with our USfidelis Chevrolet Impala SS in race trim this weekend. We never got a chance to make a mock qualifying run in practice, so we’ll do that in happy hour and see what we have.”
